signage sketches.

Nothing is realized among these ideas, but it is OK. We need more sketches to get better idea.

hydraulic gabage can.

This project has done for city of Chicago with Brandon Kane. Idea was pretty cool, but aesthetics wise, really bad. I still like the idea.

FIRKIN

FIRKIN is a bar in Libertyville, IL. I like this bar architecturally. here is the reason.
First, they are in old building. I don't know how old the building, but they kind of renovated the building and use it. I can see old wood joist in the building. Even thought they renovated the building they didn't clean up all of old stuff.
Second, their interior design is awesome. the first picture shows reflected their interior lighting on glass. they just hung a lot of lightings(like christmas lighting) on ceiling. The lightings are fantastic. looks very natural, some times chaotic, anyway, looks very nice. (and it must be cheap!) Genius interior lighting design!

p.s. my friend Nick has blog about beers from FIRKIN

my first 3D

These two images are my first 3D by autocad. I forgot what version was autocad, anyway, it was 1999. The first image show(I tried to show) lobby space in high rise building. In the second image, the yellow one is my building. Blue ones are existing neighbors. You can see shilluette of my building. It still looks good, I think.

glass pavillion

glass pavillion in Toledo, Ohio, designed by Japanses architect, Kazuo Sejima. This is very simple building, but detail is amazing. Curved glass doesn't look big deal, but most of interior wall are glass. I didn't check its structure, but I can guess that two or three opaque spaces, covered by gypsum board, might have columns inside. And, you can see thin white steel column in the picture. Actually, the columns disappear.

The most impressive thing in my opinion is layered glass walls. Light is reflected and fracover and over thru glass walls, which makes fantastic atmosphere in the building.

Simplicity and clearness. This building shows the definition of japenese architectural design.

interface.

very nice interface between masonry and glazing frame. See the reflection on glass and slidness on masonry in contrast. This is very nice example of using glass and masonry togather.

look at the EL.

Look at the EL(train). The train is coming thru/on/over the entrance canopy from the wall. Very nicely done by a painter.

Last exit to green.

The best space in our office building. Outside tree in grid curtain wall. I just found one more. I will call this exit door, LAST EXIT TO GREEN' No green/sustainability project in my office yet. No client want it because of high cost(not really, but they are afraid of).

google earth is the man!

I can't imagine that how I worked without google earth. I remember that when I was in school, we BOUGHT aerial photo if we really need. Now, with google earth, everything is FREE! Try if you don't know it yet. (I doubt it, if you are in architecture field)

membrane pavillion.

This is just a paviliion created with autodesk viz to try new lighting set up. The lighting turned out pretty good. The pavilion is made with membrane with steel/aluminum/or titanium(whatever structural engineer wants, if it is cheap), concrete cylinder and glass panels.
